BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world.BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves.Since 2013, BURN has sold 200,000+ high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized jikokoas â„¢ stoves in East Africa. These stoves have helped 1,000,000+ beneficiaries save $39 million in fuel expenditures and 626,221 tons of wood while reducing indoor air pollution by 65%. BURN currently sells ~10,000 stoves per month and intend to double sales by the end of 2017.
About the Role:
- BURN is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Frontend Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our web applications, as well as ensuring that they are user-friendly, responsive, and visually appealing.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in front-end development, a strong understanding of web development technologies, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, and other developers to create user-friendly, responsive, and visually appealing web applications.
- Develop and maintain code using modern frontend technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and React.
- Optimize web applications for maximum speed and scalability.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility and accessibility.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, and conduct code reviews to ensure high code quality.
- Work with the team to continually improve development processes and tools.
- Participate in the full software development life cycle, from planning and requirements gathering to implementation and maintenance.
- Keep up to date with emerging trends and technologies in front-end development.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in frontend development.
- Expertise in modern front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and React.
- Strong understanding of web development principles such as responsive design, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience with CSS pre-processors such as SASS or LESS.
- Experience with RESTful APIs and integrating frontend applications with backend APIs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with state management libraries such as Redux.
- Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks such as Jest or Enzyme.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
