POSITION: Information Technology (IT) Assistant
OPENING DATE: September 19, 2018

WORK HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/week
SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN-08 (Starting salary ZK 193,747.66 p.a.); Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): Base schedule FP-6 (Starting salary $ 40,514 p.a.)

*Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

The U.S. Mission in Zambia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Information Technology (IT) Assistant at the Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC).

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Under the supervision of the Information Systems Specialist, the IT Assistant manages and processes incoming service desk requests. Incumbent provides day to day Information and Communications Technology (ICT) front end customer service and technical support to users on the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Wireless networks as assigned by the supervisor. This involves troubleshooting and resolving user problems with workstations, core business applications, Internet access, File and Print services, automated installation services, cable and telecom connectivity and all CDC systems’ associated hardware and software.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

1. EDUCATION: Successful completion of Senior Secondary School and Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering is required.

2. EXPERIENCE: Three years’ experience in network administration and front-end ICT technical support working with current Microsoft Windows Desktop operating systems and applications, installation and configuration of third party applications is required. Two years’ experience working with Windows Server Operating systems is also required.

3. LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) written, spoken and reading in English is required. (English language proficiency will be tested).

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have technical skill for hardware management with quick adaptability to new technologies and basic keyboard skills.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Incumbent must have advanced knowledge in IT administration and software including current MS Windows Server, desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, LAN and WAN technologies, routing, switching, designs and architectures.

6. Must be able to work independently as well as a member of a team with the ability to relate with people while working within laid down procedures. Must have a customer service approach to proactively anticipate or react to reported end user problems and providing practical solutions.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. Management may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
2. Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply. Current OR employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
3. Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
4. The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a background security clearance.
